  • Never pay for 'VIP' passes or install APKs sent on WhatsApp; report fraud to 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.

Looking for a Bhasma Aarti booking app? As of 1 October 2026, we found no official app from the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee on Google Play or the App Store. Book Bhasma Aarti on the official website, shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in, which works in your phone browser. Skip apps, APKs or links that promise passes.

By Kshitij Kumawat, Ujjain local guide since 2023. This site is not the temple. It has no app and does not sell tickets. Official Bhasma Aarti permits are issued only on shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in.

Is There an Official Bhasma Aarti Booking App?

No. On 1 October 2026 we checked Google Play, the Apple App Store and the official Shri Mahakaleshwar portal itself. We did not find any app published by the temple committee for Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga.

The portal backs this up in two ways. Its booking notice says Bhasma Aarti booking is available “on the official website only”. And the site’s own code has no link to a Play Store or App Store listing, which is where an official app would normally be promoted.

This is a dated finding, not a promise about the future. The temple may release an app one day. Until it is announced and linked on the portal, treat the website as the only official booking channel. For the full plan, from choosing a date to reaching the temple at night, read our Bhasma Aarti booking guide.

How to Book Bhasma Aarti on Your Phone (No App Needed)

You do not need an app to book from a phone. The official portal opens in any mobile browser, and the whole booking runs there. Here is what matters on a small screen.

Open the right website

Type shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in directly into your browser rather than tapping a link from an ad or a message. When we tested on 1 October 2026, the older address shrimahakaleshwar.com simply redirected to shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in. So both lead to the same portal, but the .mp.gov.in address is the one to bookmark.

When booking opens: Tatkal vs regular

Bhasma Aarti has two release windows on the portal. Both open at 8:00 AM. News reports say booking went fully online in April 2026: the offline counter permits ended, and the advance window was cut from three months to one month.

Booking type When it opens Quota What you need Fee (confirm at checkout)
Tatkal 8:00 AM, one day before the aarti date 300 permits a day, first come first served (reported Apr 2026) Photo + valid ID for each devotee ₹200 per person (reported Apr 2026)
Regular advance 8:00 AM on the 1st of the previous month (for example, July dates open on 1 June) As shown on the portal Photo + valid ID for each devotee ₹200 per person (reported Apr 2026; confirm on the portal)

Rules and fees can change, so check the portal on the day you plan to book. The portal lists the aarti itself from 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM. Timings can change on festival days.

What to keep ready on your phone

  • A clear photo of each devotee, saved in your gallery.
  • Each devotee’s valid photo ID, with the number typed correctly.
  • The mobile number you will use for login, with the phone in hand for any OTP.
  • A payment method that works on your phone, such as UPI, set up in advance.
  • Your chosen date, plus one backup date for the regular window.

Our advice: get on the portal a few minutes before 8:00 AM, use a stable network, and have the photos and ID details ready to fill fast. These are our tips, not portal rules.

After payment: save your permit

We suggest you pay only on the portal’s own payment step, never through a link someone sends you. Once the booking is done, download the permit or take a screenshot, and keep it offline in case the network is weak near the temple. For every screen and field explained in order, see our full step-by-step booking guide.

What Happened to the Shri Mahakaleshwar App?

Many older articles still tell readers to “download the official app”. That is because there was once an app, and a new one was later announced. Neither is available as an official listing today.

The first was an Android app called “Shree Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling Ujjain”, published by NIC Ujjain (National Informatics Centre). It described itself as the official m-Governance app of the temple, with live darshan, photos, videos and booking. A third-party app tracker shows it listed on Google Play from April 2015. It is no longer listed. It was last seen on Google Play around February 2022, and its Play Store address now shows “Not found”.

In March 2024, the temple committee announced a new “Mahakal App” that would launch soon, with features such as Bhasma Aarti permission and quick darshan. No launch date was given. We found no official listing for the Shri Mahakaleshwar app in either store as of October 2026.

When What happened Status as of Oct 2026 Source
Apr 2015 NIC Ujjain’s “official m-Governance App” listed on Google Play No longer listed; last seen around Feb 2022; Play page shows “Not found” AppBrain, Google Play
Mar 2024 Temple committee announced a “Mahakal App” to launch soon No official listing found ETV Bharat, Patrika
Apr 2026 Bhasma Aarti booking made fully online; portal says booking is on the official website only Current Official portal, Dainik Jagran
1 Oct 2026 Our check of Google Play, the App Store and the portal No official app found Our check

So the app advice in older guides was once true. The old app went away, and the announced one has not appeared as an official listing.

Mahakal Apps on Google Play and the App Store: Are They Official?

Search the stores for a Mahakal Bhasma Aarti booking app and you will find several apps with Mahakal or Ujjain in the name. The ones we checked on 1 October 2026 are listed by private developers, not by the temple committee. None of them is the Mahakaleshwar Temple official app.

App name Store Developer (as listed) What it offers Temple’s official app?
Mahakal Darshan – Puja & Astro Google Play MahDar Apps Puja, astrology No. The listing says it “is not the official app of Mahakal”.
Ujjain Yatra Google Play Ujjain Yatra Darshan booking, Bhasma Aarti details and booking assistance, tour packages No. Private travel app.
Ujjain Darshan Google Play Ouji Apuri Hotels, pujan, car rentals No. Private developer.
Mahakal.com Apple App Store MANAL SOFTECH PRIVATE LIMITED Darshan and aarti videos, puja booking No. Private company.

Being private does not by itself make an app harmful. Some offer videos, puja services or travel help. The point is simpler: none of them can issue an official Bhasma Aarti permit. Only shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in does that. If an app offers “booking assistance”, it can at best help you use the portal. It cannot give you a seat the portal has not issued.

If Bhasma Aarti Booking Fails on Your Phone

Start with timing. The Tatkal quota is small (300 permits a day, reported Apr 2026) and first come first served, so it can fill quickly after 8:00 AM.

  • Tatkal full: try again at the next 8:00 AM Tatkal window for the following day, or plan ahead and use next month’s regular release on the 1st at 8:00 AM.
  • Page or payment problem: do not pay twice in a hurry. Check your booking history on the portal first, and use the helpdesk details listed in the contact section of shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in.
  • OTP or form errors: our booking walkthrough covers these step by step.

Some general phone tips, which are our advice rather than portal rules: open the portal in your normal browser such as Chrome or Safari instead of a browser inside a social app, close heavy apps, and switch to the stronger of Wi-Fi or mobile data before 8:00 AM.

If you cannot get a permit for your dates, you can still watch Mahakal live darshan online. That needs no app either.

First, the facts. The frauds reported so far around Mahakal have used fake websites and forged passes, not fake apps. In June 2025, Ujjain Police shut down nine fake websites posing as Shri Mahakaleshwar Bhakt Niwas, the temple’s accommodation. In May 2026, police blocked 11 fake hotel and dharamshala booking websites and links aimed at devotees. And according to a September 2026 news report, 12 devotees from Meerut say they lost ₹30,000 to a travel agent, found through online ads, who sent them “VIP Bhasma Aarti” passes that turned out to be fake.

We found no documented case of a fake Bhasma Aarti app. The checks below are a precaution, because the same tricks can move to apps and APK files.

How to check a future official app

If the temple does release an app, it should be linked from shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in itself. The publisher name in the store should be the temple committee or a government body. An official app would not be sent to you as a WhatsApp link or a file to install outside the store.

Red flags

  • An APK file or download link sent over WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS.
  • A “VIP” or “confirmed” Bhasma Aarti pass sold for a fee, or a promise of a sure seat.
  • Payment asked to a personal UPI ID or bank account.
  • Ads or posts promising passes after the portal shows the quota is full.
  • An app or site whose developer or owner is not the temple committee.

For fake websites, see our guide on how to tell the real temple website from fakes.

Where to report fraud

If you have been cheated or spot a fake booking link, report it on the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in, as Ujjain Police advised in May 2026. Act fast if money has already left your account.

Booking by phone is simple once you know the windows. If you want a printable plan with the day-of timeline and what to carry at night, the full offline checklist is in the Mahakal Playbook guide. It is a guide only; your permit still comes from the official portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an official app for Bhasma Aarti booking?

As of 1 October 2026, we found no official Bhasma Aarti booking app from the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee on Google Play or the Apple App Store. The official portal says Bhasma Aarti booking is available on the official website only. Book on shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in in your phone browser, and check the portal for any future app announcement.

Where can I download the Shri Mahakaleshwar app?

There is no official listing to download right now. The old NIC Ujjain app is no longer on Google Play; it was last seen there around February 2022. The temple committee announced a new app in March 2024, but we found no official listing as of October 2026. Use the official website in your browser instead.

Can I book Bhasma Aarti on my mobile without an app?

Yes. The official portal, shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in, works in any phone browser. Tatkal booking opens at 8:00 AM one day before the aarti date, and regular booking opens at 8:00 AM on the 1st of the previous month. Keep a photo and valid ID for each devotee ready, and check the portal on the day.

Are the Mahakal apps on Google Play official?

The Mahakal and Ujjain apps we checked on 1 October 2026 are listed by private developers, not the temple committee. The Mahakal Darshan listing itself says it is not the official app of Mahakal. These apps may offer videos, puja or travel help, but none can issue an official Bhasma Aarti permit.

Is shrimahakaleshwar.com the official booking website?

When we tested on 1 October 2026, shrimahakaleshwar.com redirected to shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in, the official temple portal. It is not a separate booking site; both addresses lead to the same official portal. Bookmark and type the .mp.gov.in address directly, and avoid look-alike addresses shared in ads or messages.

Do not install the file or pay through the link. Bhasma Aarti is booked only on the official portal, shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in. If you have lost money or want to report the link, contact the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in as soon as possible.
