Why this site exists

I am Kshitij Kumawat. I built BhasmaArti Booking after watching too many devotees lose money to fake agents at Mahakaleshwar Temple. Touts at the temple gate sell “VIP passes” for 1,000 to 5,000 rupees. WhatsApp groups promise “guaranteed Bhasma Aarti slots” for 4,000 rupees. Hotel concierges add 2,000 rupee markups on tickets that cost 1,500 on the official site.

None of these middlemen have authority. The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Trust runs only one official portal: mahakaleshwar.nic.in. Every Bhasma Aarti pass, every VIP Shighra Darshan, every Garbh Grah ticket comes from that single source. Anyone selling outside it is taking your money and giving you a screenshot that the temple will reject at Gate 4.

How accuracy is maintained

Every page is reviewed against three sources before publishing:

1. The official Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple website at mahakaleshwar.nic.in
2. On-ground verification by my Ujjain-based team during Bhasma Aarti visits
3. Reader reports from devotees who completed the actual ritual that month

Pages get a “last reviewed” date in the schema. Major changes (price hikes, festival schedule shifts) are pushed within 48 hours of being announced by the temple trust.

I have visited Mahakaleshwar Temple over 30 times since 2018. My family in Ujjain has lived there for 4 generations. I work with local priests, hotel owners, and cab operators to keep this site’s information current. The site is independently funded through advertising and through bookings on my partner sites for hotels and cabs (hotelsinujjain.in and ujjaincabs.com). I take no commission on temple bookings because there is no commission to take. Bhasma Aarti tickets are sold only by the temple trust at fixed government-set prices.

4 most common Bhasma Aarti scams (warn your family)

1. Tout at Gate 1 selling “VIP pass” for 1,000-5,000 rupees: real VIP Shighra is 250 rupees on the official site. Touts have no authority. Their pass is rejected at security.
2. WhatsApp / Telegram groups promising slots for 4,000 rupees: real maximum is 3,000 rupees (Karthikeya/Ganesh mandapam VIP). Anything higher is fraud. Anything sold by a private number is fraud.
3. Hotel concierge offering “combo Bhasma Aarti package”: hotels cannot sell temple tickets. Markup of 2,000-5,000 rupees on free or low-cost passes.
4. Auto-rickshaw drivers offering “VIP entry guarantee”: drivers have zero temple authority. The “VIP entrance” they take you to is the same Gate 1 free queue.

If you have been scammed

• File a written complaint at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Trust office (Gate 1)
• Lodge an FIR at Mahakal Police Station, Ujjain (next to the temple)
• Report online at cybercrime.gov.in if it was a digital scam
